Dolce Wang

Dolce Wang and her Cobra light up this garden“I have designed and built my own instruments and I can tell you that the workmanship of the instrument by the Wood Violins team is amazing. Everyone at Wood is extremely friendly and they were also incredibly accommodating when working with me to build a custom designed instrument. It has been incredibly freeing to be able to stand and play, and the instrument is incredibly responsive to all the electronics on my pedalboard. When compared to many other electric cellos, the Cobra has a great warmth to it! Traveling with it is so much easier than my full body cello, so it is very convenient to do gigs all over. I love it!!”

Brian Fitzy

Brian Fitzgerald“I got my first custom instrument from Wood Violins nearly 12 years ago. The 4-string Stingray has been around the world with me, on national television, and stages of all sizes, from Madison Square Garden to tiny dive-bar clubs. It turns heads and excites eyes and ears everywhere I go and has become part of my identity as a musician. I needed instruments that sound as great as they look, and both of my custom violins are the best you can get.”

Blending elements from a variety of genres and decades, Brian Fitzy falls somewhere between Daryl Hall and Jamiroquai by way of A Tribe Called Quest. Vocalist, electric violinist, guitarist, beat-boxer. Bringing these elements together live with looping technology, the result is soul-pop with undertones from the golden age of hip hop.

“I’ve played exclusively on electric instruments pretty much since I started playing violin but the Viper just rocks my world so much harder than anything I’ve played before. Thank you so much for your amazing instrument!”

Joe Deninzon

JoeDeninzon“As a violinist and vocalist who likes to do both simultaneously, the Viper is the answer to my prayers. The harness system allows complete versatility and flexibility for singing and playing. It also eases tension in my back and allows for more freedom of movement. The frets have saved my life on those nights when I couldn’t hear myself in the monitors. As a guy who loves to invade other people’s frequency ranges, having the 7 strings has really helped me with this goal. Seriously though in addition to its amazing tone, the instrument is truly beautiful. It is truly a work of art that looks great on stage. The Viper has opened many musical doors for me, and I am proud to recommend your instruments to my students, and to any string players who want to expand their horizons and bring out their inner beast.”

Yngve Hilding

Yngve Hilding first contacted Mark Wood when he was only 11 years old, saved his money for years until he was able to afford his very own Viper, and is now an accomplished and brilliant musician in Sweden! We are BEYOND proud to include Yngve on our roster of extraordinary Viper players!

“As the sole Viper violinist in Sweden, my musical journey has taken on an entirely new dimension. My Viper has become a crucial catalyst in both my musical performance and career. Representing a company that continually strives to push the boundaries of what is possible in the world of violins is an honor. Wood Violins has not only provided me with an exceptional instrument for self-expression but has also become a valuable partner. When I play my Viper, it’s not merely a choice of instrument; it’s an expression of passion and musical exploration.

Wood Violins’ commitment to innovation and excellence has not only enhanced my musicianship but has also opened doors to new opportunities within my career. Being the exclusive Viper violinist in Sweden has garnered national and international interest, and it’s a privilege to be associated with a company at the forefront of redefining the possibilities in the violin world.”

Dr. David Wallace

DavidWallace-sized“When I first heard and played a Viper, I knew that I had found the electric instrument of my dreams. To be honest, I wasn’t even shopping for an electric because the amplified violins I had heard sounded like bad, cheesy synthesizers, or they felt heavy, unnatural, and uncomfortable. Mark Wood has single-handedly solved all of these problems. Wood Violins can produce a full spectrum of sounds ranging from heavy distortion to tones of ethereal beauty and richness. They are the only electric violins I know that really let musicians dig in and play. As a bonus, the Viper actually improves acoustic string playing. The amazing self-support mechanism releases tension and encourages good physical habits. I’ve also noticed that performing with effects helps string players to develop ultra-precise articulation, which easily transfers to unplugged playing. As a compositional and improvisational tool, Wood Violins open an infinite number of possibilities. The phenomenal timbres and the wide melodic range make me wonder how I ever got by with only 4 strings! Thanks, Mark!!! You’re a genius!”

A New York Philharmonic Teaching Artist and a faculty member of the Juilliard School, Dr. David Wallace’s performances include appearances for the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center and the New York Viola Society, the New York premiere of Stefano Gervasoni’s Viola Concerto in Alice Tully Hall, and a 20-concert Visiting Artist’s Residency in Saginaw, Michigan. As a soloist, he has been broadcast on National Public Radio, CBS and PBS television, WQXR radio’s McGraw Hill Young Artist’s Showcase, and gospel music radio show Live from the Lamb’s. A regular performer as a soloist and chamber musician, David is also the fiddler of the Texas-style string band The Doc Wallace Trio, which released its debut album, Live at the Living Room, in 2001 and which is on the touring roster of Young Audiences of Houston.

Sarah Charness

sarahcharness-image3“I first met Mark Wood at the Greenwood Music Camp when I was just 15 years old. From that point on, my life changed. Mark came in with a variety of electric violins, his main feature being the viper. As soon as I tried it on, I was hooked. My neck and shoulders began to relax, and all of a sudden I had freedom. The removal of a chinrest as part of the violin is both unique and brilliant giving the player the ability to actually move while playing. Dancing has always been a large part of my life and for the first time I could actually bring that into my playing! The Viper has changed my approach to violin playing and I could not live without it!”

A violinist since the age of four, Sarah Charness captivates audiences with her vivacious performances and the vibrant sound of her trademark hot pink, six-string electric violin. Her unique musical style – the fusion of classical, pop, and electronic dance music – has thrilled fans around the world.
