Michael Lucarelli

Michael-Lucarelli“Meeting my Viper was a turning point for me as a musician. Exploration is important to me as a musician and as a human being. My viper allows me to explore the world of music and stretch my capabilities as a string player. No style is out of my grasp. This instrument will take me as far as my imagination goes.”

Lourds Lane

Lourds-Lane“You can never shine too much when you’re playing in front of thousands of people. My custom glow in the dark Sabre lights up the stage and makes me feel badass when I play it.”

‘The brilliant musical talent, Lourds Lane, brought a nearly audible sigh of relief from this Type A crowd when she implored us to embrace our flaws, sharing her poignant personal story through her violin, singing and storytelling.’ – Top Ten Takeaways on Innovation from TEDx Women – The Huffington Post

Lourds Lane is the book, music, and lyrics writer of the Broadway-bound musical, Chix 6 as well as one of the stars of the show — the electric-violin playing superhero, Rise. Lourds is also the founder and CEO of the educational, arts-based non-profit called the SuperYou FUN-dation and the founder and host of the Medusa Festival, featuring the best emerging female fronted bands in the country. A classically trained prodigy on violin and piano at age 3, Lourds toured with youth orchestras in concert halls around the world. Eventually, with a sparkly electric Wood violin as her main instrument, she kicked in the distortion pedal and shredded her way on tours across North America, fronting her rock band, LOURDS, and amassing a devoted nation-wide fan base. As Billboard hails, ‘Lourds breaks the rules while poised to break into the big time.’

LisaLiu“I met Mark at Juilliard for the premiere of his “Nest of Vipers” and the birth of the Juilliard Electric Ensemble.  I remember how he walked into the room, fully armed, strapped in leather, and wearing that infectious smile.  Then he whipped out the sexiest stringed instrument ever created…a glowing, juicy, red Viper… it was transformative.  Thanks for releasing me from the cage, Mark…”

Philip Pan

Philip_Pan-“I was attracted to the Viper by its stunning appearance, enormous range and great sound. After owning my 7-string for a few months, I have come to realize that this is a true artist’s instrument of the level of the finest old Italian, acoustic violins. It rewards expertise, finesse and imagination; the more your bring to it, the more it gives back. Like many acoustic players, I had assumed that all the sounds were “dialed-in”; nothing could be futher from the truth. While modern electronics offer effects and tones not possible without technology, they cannot be used to create great music without an instrument that responds telepathically to its player. I am especially impressed at how my Viper reacts precisely to the finest manipulations of the bow, with a tonal palette broader than that of any violin I have played, (including Cremona’s best!).

“All of my training and experience with the great classical repertoire comes to play on my Viper, and the seemingly limitless expressive potential of this marvel challenges me constantly to expand my creativity and develop my personal voice. During my career, I have played much of the greatest music ever written. With my Viper, I am driven to take the next step: to create my own music and strive to have it meet the lofty standards set by past and present masters. As the artistic trend worldwide melts stylistic walls and embraces a new kind of “holistic performer”, Wood Violins enhances this evolution by breaking all previous boundaries for string players. This is our time and the Viper is our weapon of choice!”

Sam Kahre

Sam-Kahre-1A“The #1 reason why I have a Mark Wood Cobra Electric cello: it’s a total attention getter! Whenever you pull the Cobra out of the its capsule (because “case” or “bag” should never be the proper name of the carrier for this instrument), people immediately notice the unique and just plain awesome shape and style of this instrument. I customized my Cobra to have 6 strings instead of 4, raised frets, a high gloss flaming blue finish, and even the volume knob is custom. It can be worn so you can play standing up or you can flip the harness upside down and the shoulder system sits on your legs so you can sit down with it. When standing up with the Cobra, I can maneuver and basically dance with it while I’m performing, which makes any performance 100% more interesting.

Sam-Kahre-2A“Another reason I love this instrument is the option of having 6 strings – a low F and a high E. For cellists, our only limits are our skill level and how much we practice…the 2 extra strings just make us even more limitless!!! I LOVE FRETS – nuff said. They’re cool looking and frets are very handy in a plugged in environment.

“This is why I LOVE my Cobra electric cello.”

Sam has been classically trained since age 7. He loves performing solo, with an ensemble or band; from the State Capital to private Valentine serenades. The highlights of his Cobra journey to date are: 2013 MWROC, playing with Mark and 9 other Wood proteges for the MuzArt World Foundation concert, and playing the National Anthem solo for the OKC NBA Thunder Team crowd of 18,000+. One great gig leads to another!

Sam-Kahre-3AFrom Sam’s Mom: “Flashback to 2011…Being the mom of a 12 year old musician, my biggest fear was to hear the words ‘I don’t want to play any more’ so I started looking into what was out there that would be exciting. The world of electric instruments was an obvious avenue since it parallels the acoustic, and allows for unlimited creativity while maintaining the muscle memory and basic fundamentals. It was exactly what Sam needed to keep him ‘plugged into music.’ After having his acoustic and electric for a year or so, his instructor Tomasz Zieba told him he should name his cellos. Without hesitation, he says ‘Mustang & Sally.’ Of course, the Cobra is Mustang!”

Alissa Jackman

RockStarPicHighRes“It’s an understatement to merely say that I love my Viper. My Viper is the gateway to the career I’ve dreamt of my whole life. I always knew I wanted to be a violinist, but not only in the traditional sense. I saw myself playing huge shows and being able to connect with the energy of the audience; rocking out and not being confined to a chair and music stand. When I first saw a Viper I was completely amazed. It was the coolest instrument I had ever seen and I just HAD to get my hands on one. The first time I strapped on a Viper, it just felt so right. My Viper has enabled me to play the music I’ve always loved on a totally rockin’ 7 string fretted version of the instrument I’ve always loved. I have finally found my rightful niche in music thanks to Wood Violins.”

Alissa Jackman is a Violin major at Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music, Art, and Performing Arts in New York City. She first picked up a violin at age 3 and has loved it ever since. Alissa’s first experience with the Electrify Your Strings Program was in 2009. She has played multiple shows with the EYS program and was interviewed, with Mark Wood himself, on ABC about the program. She has also performed in various fundraising concerts such as the Electrify Your Music Foundation kick off concert featuring Dee Snider, and the MuzArt World Organization’s “We Are Hope” concert. She has been attending the Mark Wood Rock Orchestra Camp since 2011. Alissa is passionate about her music, proud to be part of the Wood Violins family, and is excited to see how far her growing music career will take her.

Vladimir Vett

Vladimir Vett“When I step on stage, I am proud of my Viper and the music I play on it! My Viper is extremely perfect!!! It is a unique incomparable experience! When I raise my hands during a concert, I realise that the future is here now as the Viper is a new era of violin playing! I’m happy to be with Wood Violins!”

Shane Guse

Shane-Guse“Quite simply, my 7-string Viper is the best tool for the job, and I love it.  The Barbera pickup gives me great, consistent tone, even when undesirable backline is provided. That means I spend minimal time during set up working on amp tone and more time concentrating on the music.  Hand made to my specifications, the Viper looks incredible and commands attention the minute I walk on stage.  Plus, the harness system gives me the freedom to sing and double on mandolin without ever having to put the Viper down. The HUGE range and versatility of 7 strings allows me to cover viola, cello, bass and even guitar parts I could never have done before, and that means more gigs for me.  My Viper not only helps me look and sound better, it also pushes my own boundaries and challenges me as a musician to try new things and broaden my abilities.  I played a Zeta for ten years.  In the year and a half since my Viper arrived, the Zeta hasn’t even been out of the case. Thanks Wood Violins for building the ultimate electric violin!
