Tuesday night, my bass teacher said something that was really appalling to me: "If they wanted to make bass easy, they'd have plugged it in." He also said it to our 2nd chair bassist, also an electric bass guitar player. Both of us thought it was unnecessarily harsh. I want to slap my Fender into his hands and say, "Okay, you play Portrait of Tracy and tell me it's easy."

If you want to tune it like a guitar ( one octave higher than guitar ) you could get a set of D'adario Cromes flatwound guitar strings maybe 9 - 42 gauge. Oops - I think they only have 10 - 46 and heavier. But those are steel. I like steel but I guess most dont. But 5th interval tuning is alot better than guitar tuning anyways and its not hard to relearn.
Sweep picking is hard?! I guess everyone is different. I can sweep fast scales and arpeggios like Gambale drunk and watching Seinfeld at the same time. It is hard at first I guess.
And if you have a 6+ string Viper you dont need a guitar player in the band anyways. We dont need guitars in rock anymore. Im thinking pink 5 string fretless Viper...? I have small hands.

The majority of classical players out there seem to think that electric instruments bastardize the art of playing string instruments, and that you use far less technique in doing so. I've read many articles and know many people that have said this. It's just a stance of ignorance.

As for having small hands, a 7-string fretted Viper can be perfectly fine for someone with small hands as much as a 5-string fretless! I'm 5'2 and 100lbs, and wear kid's gloves because ones for adults are too big, but my main instrument is a 7-string fretted Viper :)

oo that makes me feel better. i held back from getting a 7-string at first because i was afraid my hands would be too small (i wear kid-sized gloves too). maybe i'll have to try a 7-string this summer to see what it's like . . .

Just be sure to try it for a while, if you're able to, because it will obviously seem like a gigantic bazooka flamethrower cannon at first (I felt like I had a Tommy gun on my shoulder), but then you'll get used to it and freak out whenever you play anything smaller because you'll wonder how you lived without such a killer range!
